چکیده

The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of increasing initial population density (Pi) of Meloidogyne incognita on nematode reproduction and growth of susceptible tomato (Lycopersicom esculentum cv. Round-41) at 25°C± 2 in growth chamber. 21-days-old tomato seedlings transplanted in13-cm dia. earthen pot was inoculated with Pi including 250, 500, 1000, 1500 eggs of M. incognita. Nematode reproduction was assessed by determining the number of galls, eggs masses, eggs per root system, and reproduction rate values per root system at 60 days after inoculations. Egg-masses on Phloxine Bstained roots were quantified and root systems were rated for galling and egg mass presence on a 0 to 5 scale where 0 = no gall or egg masses, 1 = 1-2, 2 = 3-10, 3 = 11-30, 4 = 31100, and 5 = >100 galls or egg masses per root system. Nematode reproduction was directly proportional to Pi. Reproduction rate (Pf/Pi, where Pf = final number of eggs / initial egg density) for Pi's of 250, 500, 1000 and 1500 eggs/plant was lowest when Pi = 250 (2.23) but similar when Pi = 500, 1000 or 1500. Shoot and root growth were inversely related to Pi. Strong liner relationship exited between root length, root galling index and foliage growth but very poor between root weight and foliage growth. High Pf = final eggs per root system than at all Pi suggests that Round-41 is a good host for M. incognita

Root-knot nematodes cause physiological and anatomical disorders in plants. The present study contains the results of an investigation of the effect of Meloidogyne incognita race2 on the growth of roots and aerial organs of tomato under greenhouse conditions. The experiment in a completely randomized design split split plot on two susceptible (Falat Y) and tolerante (Gina VF) tomatoes variety w...

Resistant Host Responses to Ten California Populations of Meloidogyne incognita.

Resistant and susceptible cultivars of tomato, lima beans, cotton, and alfalfa were tested with 10 populations of Meloidogyne incognita from different California locations. Nine of the populations differed in aggressiveness on the nine cultivars tested. Two populations were especially aggressive toward resistant tomato cultivars.

Reproduction of Virulent Isolates of Meloidogyne incognita on Susceptible and Mi-resistant Tomato.

The reproductive potential of natural and laboratory-selected Meloidogyne incognita isolates virulent against the tomato Mi resistance gene, all derived from a single egg-mass, were compared when the nematodes were inoculated on susceptible and resistant tomato. Fewer second-stage juveniles (P = 0.01) of the two virulent populations selected under laboratory conditions matured to females on the...

Response of Tomato Cultigens to Meloidogyne javanica and Races of Meloidogyne incognita.

Thirty-six cultigens of tomato were evaluated for resistance against Meloidogyne javanica and four races of M. incognita with standards and parameters adopted by the International Meloidogyne Project. Most cultigens were susceptible to the nematodes, including some that were previously reported to be resistant to these nematodes. Ten accessions, namely Pusa-120, Calmart VFN, Panjab 6.NR-7, EC17...

Influence of salt concentration on infectivity and development of Meloidogyne incognita on tomato

In greenhouse studiesl infectivity and development of M. incoynila on tomato was impaired by increasing soil solution concentrations (ECe 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 5.0 mmhos/cm) ol NaC1, CaCI, or combinations of both salts. In two experiments, reduced inlrctivily was pronounced on a susceptible cultivar (Hunts) a t all salt concentrations, while infectivity was reduced primarily a t higher salt concentrat...
